Today, as originally visited on January 27, 2014 by the 113th U.S. Congress, in S. Res. 337 is the date designated as "National Data Privacy" day. Although the resolution was non-binding it served to establish a precedent that "encourages State and local governments to observe the day with appropriate activities and initiatives that raise awareness about data privacy and security[.]"

A substantial portion of my career has been spent on development of education, processes, procedures and policy specifically designed to increase the awareness of privacy concerns and secure privacy related data.
This year is no exception. Additionally there are many more concerns and controls that have been developed since 2014 to assist users of technology with managing their personal and private information.
Various platforms have on-boarded support for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The regulation in European Union law, is an effort to provide users with transparency and control over the information that is gathered about activity in a vendor or services platform with in the European Economic Area including information that is transmitted internationally. Laws and regulations like the GDPR are on track for the future of global electronic commerce and social interaction guardrails.

Twitter provides help to control tracking
Although the Twitter effort to support the Do Not Track browser preference was discontinued. They have added help for controls that manage tracking related to Twitter.

The Bottom Line
Control and management of personally identifiable information (PII) and the various metadata that swirls around and issues forth from our activity everyday is a daunting to contemplate. Take some time to familiarize yourself with some of the ways that you can obtain and maintain control of that information and learn how it affects your experience in commerce and social media.
